Is This Statement Outerwear Piece Worth It?

You know a trend has caught on when you start seeing it everywhere. But with so many options comes the question: Which one is actually Worth It? Every Tuesday, we’re looking at a different fashion girl favorite and the varying price points it comes in, and letting you know – straight up – how much you should really be spending. You work hard for your money; why not put it towards pieces that matter?

Patent everything has been one of the strongest trends we’ve seen on both the runway and the streets this fashion month thus far. Even though it’s bold (and squeaks a bit when you walk), the street cred of patent pieces make them impossible to resist. And the patent jacket in particular has become a fashion-crowd favorite for looking super cool with minimal effort. But, how much should you really be spending on this shiny, statement-making goodness?

On the low end, you can find your statement piece of patent outerwear for under $40, and on the high end, believe it or not, they can exceed $1,000. But, with a sick sale (or just a good eye) you can find one that suits your budget and taste. Click on to see which patent jacket is really #WorthIt.

What You’re Spending : $58 $34.50

What You’re Getting: This material can admittedly look cheap quick, so while it’s not the most expensive-looking jacket in the bunch, it’s an easy way to tackle the trend without breaking the bank.

ASOS First & I Cropped Patent Leather Look Jacket, $58 $34.50, available at ASOS.

What You’re Spending: $450 $157.50

What You’re Getting: You’re actually getting more than what meets the eye with this one. It’s fully reversible, and you can even zip off the sleeves to turn it into a vest (plus it’s currently on steep discount).

Tory Burch Fae Faux Patent-Leather Jacket, $450 $157.50, available at The Outnet.

What You’re Spending : $348

What You’re Getting: This moto definitely looks extra glossy and expensive, but at less than a designer price point. Reformation knows how to make cool-girl staples, and this one is made from surplus fabric, so it saves 32,952 gallons of water compared to the industry standard in the process of being produced (no joke).

The Reformation Soto Jacket, $348, available at The Reformation.

What You’re Spending: $1,049 $567

What You’re Getting: Wait, why is this almost 50% off? It feels almost too good too be true. This cropped style from Courrèges equally mod and futuristic, and it’s the perfect transitional topper for many a miniskirt-and-tights outfit.

Courrèges Faux Patent-Leather Bomber Jacket, $1,049 $567, available at MatchesFashion.com.

What You’re Spending: $592.51

What You’re Getting: First of all, you’re getting this amazing pink-fur collar, which only adds to the jacket’s statement-making potential. It’s also 100% leather (and the collar is 100% lambswool), so you’re getting the real deal, which justifies the higher price a bit more.

Charlotte Simone Va-Va Varsity, $592.51, available at Charlotte Simone.

The Verdict: Go For The Designer Deal

We feel that Courrèges does this trend best: It’s classic, flattering, and generally badass, plus it’s majorly on sale at the moment. What’s not to love? But, if this still feels like too much of a splurge, we’d probably go a step below with the eco-friendly Reformation version. Whichever you add to cart, you’ll be entering the transitional-weather season in style.

Courrèges Faux Patent-Leather Bomber Jacket, $1,049 $567, available at MatchesFashion.com.

Regis Philbin Reveals Kelly Ripa Was 'Offended' When He Left

Regis Philbin is opening up about his relationship (or lack thereof) with former Live! co-star Kelly Ripa.

The 85-year-old TV personality confirmed that he is no longer in contact with her after leaving the ABC show in 2011.

“Never once did they ask me to go back,” Regis said on Larry King Now (via People). “She got very offended when I left. She thought I was leaving because of her. I was leaving because I was getting older and it wasn’t right for me anymore.”

Regis hosted the show for 28 years, the last 10 of which were alongside Kelly.

Runway Report: TOME Fall 2017

Since they launched Tome just five years ago, designers Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin have proved they have a knack for elegant forms. For their Fall 2017 RTW collection, the two channeled that talent to create a collection that was all about women’s empowerment.

Lobo and Martin aren’t the only two designers at NYFW to reference the international women’s marches that took place less than one month ago, but their approach was more direct than it has been at other shows thus far. First, in keeping with tradition of their past presentations, the designers sprinkled a few plus-sized models as well as a silver-haired 64-year-old into their cast, making the strong statement that Tome’s clothes are for all women. Other statements came in the form of badges on the clothes themselves–a pink pin affixed to the lapel of a cropped jacket proclaimed solidarity to planned parenthood, while yellow patches shaped like bananas paid homage to Guerilla Girls, an anonymous group of female artists devoted to fighting sexism.

On the runway, the women flaunted pieces that were sculpted yet liberating. A black and white blazer that bore the outline of an idealistically slim female torso with buttons for nipples tricked the eyes into thinking it was much more fitted than it actually was, while a corseted button-down appeared uncharacteristically unencumbering. Pencil Skirts grazed the calves of models and were mostly paired with concealing long tops or blazers, and trousers were worn underneath anything from a sophisticated dress-and-obi-belt combo, to long, shiny patent leather rain coats in black and pink.

Woven into these tailored pieces were softer touches: a mid-length dress made of gilded velvet, a yellow silk skirt peeking out from underneath a black leather trench, and tufts of black fur creeping up the cuffs and sleeves of dresses and jackets. In the end, the Tome woman found strength in looser silhouettes and power in the details.

Runway Looks for Less: Tommy Hilfiger Tommy x Gigi Spring/Summer 2017

Gigi Hadid’s second capsule collection with Tommy is everything you’d expect from the pair – sunny, laid back, effortless – and perfect to re-create on a budget!

You might be aware of this particular show already, especially if you follow either of the Hadid sisters on social media – they’ve been posting about it a lot lately! And for good reason, too – this is Gigi’s second collab with Tommy Hilfiger, and both her and sister Bella walked in the show.

It’s a classic mix of casual Americana, and for someone who lives in a climate where it’s pretty much rained for the past year, it makes me yearn for some sun!

So, without further ado, here’s how you can nail Gigi Hadid’s easy, breezy, California girl vibe even if you don’t make a supermodel salary.

Look 1

First up, we have Gigi’s little sis’ Bella. Yellow is my favorite color so I was immediately drawn to this look! Channel it by pairing a striped skirt with a yellow polo and some Western-inspired boots.

Products: Polo – JCPenney, Skirt – Missguided, Boots – Boohoo, Belt – River Island

Clashing patterns will always be a huge trend, and this summery mix is perfect for warmer weather. (Where are you?!) The black ankle boots toughen up an otherwise girly look.

Products: Dress – Boohoo, Top – J.Crew, Belt – Mango, Choker – Lulu’s, Boots – Mango

Look 3

This is my favorite look in the collection. Mainly because I love leather-look skirts. I particularly love how an item that could normally be reserved for going out (a leather skirt) has been dressed down and made casual, even casual enough for classes! Just throw on a slogan t-shirt, an oversized patchwork denim jacket, and some trusty black boots.

Products: Skirt – Boohoo, Jacket – Forever 21, Top – Mango,  Boots – Missguided
